Jazz is truly America's Music. Walter Dean Myers and his son Christopher Myers collaborated on this wonderful book. My favorite spread is titled "America's Music". The piece was inspired by James Reese Europe and his band. They were part of the Harlem Hellfighters during WWI.

Last Christmas the Washington library was adopted by a local book club and received many wonderful books. Those wonderful people have adopted us again this year.
One of the books that we received is “Squeak, Rumble, Whomp! Whomp! Whomp! By Wynton Marsalis. I love this book.
So I developed a lesson to use with it. A lesson that includes music created for the featured musical instruments. It also includes photographs from the library of Congress. In class we have been learning that those photographs are primary sources.
